|Ms. Margaret (Maggie) A. Legates|
Margaret A. Legates served as the Coordinator of the Delaware Geographic Alliance from 2005 to 2015. A 21-year veteran of the middle school classroom, Maggie has been involved in Alliance activity and in education reform efforts in the State of Delaware for twenty-five years. Trained by the National Geographic Society as a Teacher Consultant in the summer of 1989, she served as a staff member or director for numerous summer institutes and workshops within the state. Deeply involved in K-12 curriculum and assessment reform, Maggie served as teacher Co-Chair of the state standards commission in the 1990's. Her current efforts center on statewide professional development programs and on curriculum materials development for K-12 classrooms in Delaware. Her awards include Delaware Geography Teacher of the Year in 2003, the NCGE Distinguished Teaching Award in 1997, NCGE Advanced Professional Certification in 1998, the Harry J. Carman Gold Medal Award from the Middle States Council for the Social Studies, and the Delaware GIS in Education Award in 2012.

After founding the Delaware Geographic Alliance in 1989, Dr. Rees stepped down as Coordinator of the DGA in 2005. He remains an active, contributing member of the Alliance, presenting at professional development programs and developing teaching materials for K-12 education. He continues to share his love of geography with students at the University of Delaware and in Study Abroad sessions.
